Managing The Cat Litter

Unless you live in a place where your cats spend most of their
time outside, then keeping a cat means that you have to manage
the cat litter. It isn’t the most desirable job on earth, but
someones got to do it, for your hygiene and your cat’s sake.
Managing the cat litter properly will mean that your cat will
have less accidents outside the litter tray, cutting down on the
cat odours in the house. To ensure you are properly managing
the cat litter, there are a few things that you can do about it.

Odours

The smell of a litter box isn’t that attractive, and it isn’t
that attractive to your cat either, they have more sensitive
noses than us, so it makes sense to control the odours by
changing the cat litter every day. The odours can be controlled
further by completely changing the litter every month and
disinfecting the litter tray, regardless of the type of litter
you use. When you are out shopping for cat litter avoid
choosing the scented cat litter, this is because it rarely
covers up the cat odours completely and it can actually
discourage your cat from using the litter tray.

Disposal of Cat Litter

Proper disposal of the litter is a big help in cutting down on
the odours. Keep in mind that the majority of cat litter cannot
be flushed down the toilet, particularly clumping types, these
types will cause them to expand in size and they will block the
waste systems. Even if your cat litter says on the pack that it
is flushable, consider alternative means of geting rid of it.

If we rule out flushing then the trash is probably your next
best option. The odours will just be moved out into the yard
near the trash though. If it’s possible use a seperate trash
can for the cat litter. One method of cutting down on the
odours is to double bag the cat litter and seal it to prevent
odours escaping.

Something else you could do is to get hold of a litter disposal
system, this consists of a sealed trash can with filters to
catch any odours trying to escape, and it is easily obtained at
any pet store. It doesn’t matter if you go for the simple
method or the sophisticated, proper disposal of used cat litter
wil help prevent the cat smell from filling your home.

Trying Different Cat Litter Experiments

October 3rd, 2008 at 10:54am Under Cat Health+ Litter Box

Cats are unique pets because they do whatever they want and
aren’t even excited when people come home. A dog would jump and
bark while a cat might look in some ones direction and flick its
tale. It’s almost like people are to be servants to the cats –
or at least this is probably what the cat thinks anyway.

People are very busy in this modern life we live. However, if
someone has extra time, they may want to try some cat litter
experiments. You can begin this informal experiment by getting
different brands and types of cat litter. Cat litter
experiments should be written out to not mess up the experiment.

Buy different types and brands and get the prices handy as well
as the total volume and weight of each box or bag. See how the
cat likes the different brands available.

Your cat will probably not spend the time to talk to them to
you about it. So the person performing the cat litter
experiments will have to be where they notice the cat’s
attitude. Remember that while you do this, the cat will not be
happy. Cats like privacy the same way people do. If your cat
seems irritated, then the cat is happy. If a cat is not
irritated, then do something like petting or stroking it. That
will make the cat irritated and the cat litter experiments can
proceed. Once all of the different litters have been tried,
then begin to see how fast each type and brand of cat litter
lasts.

Results of Cat Litter Experiments

After all of the cat litter experiments have been conducted,
its time to tally all of the results. First and foremost, you
may not want to tell anyone that you performed this experiment;
people may think you have all the time in the world! But since
you have gone to the trouble of doing the experiment it is wise
to complete it by getting the results.

Usually, cat litter experiments will show which cat litter is
the best all around for both the cat and the owner and which is
the best value for money. All of that information will lead to
the top cat litters for you and they can then be narrowed down
to a list of a few top brands. One great byproduct of doing the
cat litter experiments is that the cat will probably stay
irritated at the owner for years to come. Remember this; an
irritated cat is a happy cat.
